As we close out this month in the book of Proverbs, I'd like to ask what you learned. Did anything take you by surprise? Every time I open the Word I discover something new, seeing the same words in a new light. True, we are always changing and growing, but I think the main... Continue Reading →
Let’s Study Together! – New online Bible Study starting Jan 26
Hi Friends, Starting January 26, I'm going to start this online bible study written by one of my favorite authors and bloggers, Lysa TerKeurst. So make yourself a cup of tea, log on, and let's meet for a 6 week bible study. All are welcome. Won't you join me? I hope to see you there!
The only New Year’s Resolution you’ll ever need
Once again it's that crucial day when everyone decides whether to make or break their resolutions: January 2. According to researcher John Norcross in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, approximately 50 percent of the population makes resolutions each New Year and by February, they have given up. (From Psychology Today) Can you relate? I sure... Continue Reading →
Why witness?
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15 I always read this verse as "always be prepared to give a lecture... Continue Reading →
Want to read Proverbs with us?
Dear friends, The beginning of the year can really feel like a drag sometimes. To me January feels like the Monday of months. No more parties, no more presents, no more excuses to double on christmas cookies. It's back to reality and it's oh-so-bleak. That's why we wanted to do something extra special for our readers, to encourage and... Continue Reading →
Is it a sin not to go to church?
The convenience of a streaming church service is a double-edged sword. Indispensable to those who cannot leave their bed, but a tool of temptation for the devil. Sharing A Seed
Tonight I met up with a dear friend who lives abroad, but with whom things never seem to change no matter how long between visits. We shared the stories of the past 8 years of our lives over two enormous vanilla lattes. (I'm convinced that I could die happily in a cozy corner of a... Continue Reading →
The One Thing God Can’t Do
“The gift is God’s love, a God who can’t sever himself from us. That is the impotence of God. We say: ‘God is all powerful, He can do everything!” Except for one thing: Sever Himself from us! In the gospel, that image of Jesus who weeps over Jerusalem, helps us understand something about that love. Jesus wept! He wept over Jerusalem and that weeping is all about God’s impotence: his inability to not love (us) and not sever himself from us.”
Don’t (necessarily) follow your heart: Making faithful decisions that agree with the will of God
Commonplace stock phrases like "follow your heart" are so prevalent in our culture that e don’t think twice when we see them plastered on greeting cards, posters, and children’s clothing. They sure sound positive, upright and true, but Jesus says something different. The sins that defile us, actually start with your heart. “Out of a person’s... Continue Reading →
99 sheep
4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together... Continue Reading →
