After writing the last piece on discontentment, I was left unsatisfied with the way I approached the subject. I feel I may have focused too intently on the pain and discomfort, and not enough on the all-importance of God’s glory. It occurred to me that from the normal repertoire of discontent-battling verses, I left out one particularly powerful one, from 1 Corinthians 10:31. It says:
Whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God.
This is a command, not a suggestion. Whatever I do, I must do for the glory of God. Even if that means my difficult job, or going to someone’s house, or filling up my coffee mug in the office kitchen.
Psalm 51:17
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
Even drink orange juice to the glory of God 😉
